I will Thee I long for stand still

And drop down on one knee, O Life!

Believe in me

guard the gate

and let no one pass without scrutiny.

Rise, then, to gauge your passage.

Remove your shoes; unbraid your hair.

Slip like a minnow

through the surf

past whale and plankton to precious dark.

Don't seek light, it dims to touch.

Embrace the cold as love.

Don't warm it for me.

When you see me

missing eyes don't scream.

Look not backward into the rain, O Life

But neither fear the raging grey ahead.

Eat til you are devoured.

Drink til drowned.

Without struggle, let them remove your gown.
